Welcome to Straight Edge Communications

Hi! I’m Jodi, principal of Straight Edge Communications.

Straight Edge Communications has been around since 2007. I wanted to build a business focused on creating content that matters. While working for agencies I found that companies struggled to get the straight goods from the agency. They would get estimates that were more like sales pitches adding a bunch of services the clients didn’t ask for and inflated hourly rates to pay their overhead costs.

I wanted to give clients exactly what they need. There’s often a discussion about what that entails, but I’m not going to try and give you something you don’t need. I have a straightforward approach – it’s one of the reasons I named this business what I did.

Since I started Straight Edge Communications, I’ve given every client an estimate after our first conversation. My clients never pay more than that estimate unless the scope changes. And if it’s an hourly rate, I’ve only ever charged a client the time I actually spent doing work for their business, even if it’s less than the estimate. (I can also estimate on a per-project basis.)

Sometimes a project needs more than I can give it in terms of talent. I’ll be straight about that too. I can pull together the right team of people in that case, or I’ll work with your favourite freelance or in-house graphic designers and videographers.

But there’s more to Straight Edge. It gave me a place to work with some passion projects and add the variety I always crave. It started as a side hustle so that I could work with different clients in different industries while working at an agency in a very niche market. When I switched over to the client side in high tech, and later in higher education, that need to write about a variety of topics to a number of different audiences continued.

Want to know more about me? I have a post about that. If you want to talk about what Straight Edge Communications can do for you, get in touch.
